The history of lubricant development

    Calcium based grease

     

    Animal oil, vegetable oil and quicklime boiled together until they turn into paste, commonly known as "butter".

  • 1900

    The First Generation

     

    Calcium, barium, sodium, aluminum, lithium single or mixed metal soap grease

    Advantages: low price and high versatility

    Disadvantages: not resistant to high and low temperature or heavy load

  • 1910

    The Second Generation

     

    Solid lubricant additive

    Bentonite thickener grease

    Advantages: Good resistance to high temperature and heavy load

    Disadvantages: poor water-resistant performance, poor universality

  • 1925

    The Third Generation

     

    Polyurea organic soap grease

    Composite metal soap grease

    Advantages: intermittent resistance to high temperature and heavy load

    Disadvantages: coked or disintegrated under extreme temperature

  • 1948

    The Fourth Generation

     

    Polyether, polyester, polyalkane 

    Composite metal soap based synthetic grease

    Advantages: Continuous resistance to high temperature and heavy load 

    Disadvantages: High price because of difficult production process

  • 1963

    The Fifth Generation

     

    Components of phosphorus, silicon and fluorine

    Synthetic non-soap base oil grease

    Advantages: Continuous resistance to high temperature and heavy load 

    Disadvantages: high price and poor universality
